HSE POLICY
Technique LLC was selected by the Tender Board
to design, build and operate an MWTP (Medical Waste Treatment
Plant) for five years at a cost of RO 2 million. The site is
located adjacent to the new Muscat Municipality Landfill
Complex at Al–Multaqa in the Walliyat of Al Amerat. A nine
month schedule was set for the construction of the Plant. The
plant was built to treat medical waste as defined by WHO
(World Health Organization). It is equipped with two identical
lines of ‘high-tech’ incinerators using LPG gas. Each line has
a capacity of 2 Tons per day. Provision has been made for the
installation of a third line in the future.
The plant employs the latest technology from ATI France which
has supplied the same proven process to other GCC countries
and world-wide. The incinerators are very robust, compact and
simple to operate. Each line is equipped with a special post
combustion chamber and gas treatment system to fully comply
with the latest European Emission Standards. Stringent gas
Emission Monitoring and Testing is conducted by independent
inspectors for the Ministry of Regional Municipalities,
Environment and Water Resources and Ministry of Health every
three months.
Apart from operating the Plant, Technique LLC has the
responsibility for the collection and processing of all
medical waste from Hospitals and Medical Centres within the
Muscat Municipal area. These currently stand at 36
establishments. All Medical staff have been trained to dispose
of medical waste in specially designed and identifiable bins
supplied by Technique LLC. These are collected by
purpose built vehicles along specific routings on a daily basis
and delivered to the Plant being initially identified,
weighed, screened and then processed on one of the two lines.
Thereafter the bins are totally disinfected and returned to
the Hospitals and Medical Centres. The total operation
provides a significant employment opportunity for the local
area to which Technique LLC is committed to reaching an Omanization level of 69% for its total work force. |
